Topic: Your hard-earned tax dollars at work
If you live and work in California, you might be tempted to wonder how those taxes you work so hard to pay are being spent. Reasonable question, right?
But wait until you see this! This is guaranteed to raise your blood pressure! So sit down first.
According to the LA Times, California welfare recipients withdrew a whopping $1.8 million at casino ATMs over just eight months (October 2009 - May 2010)!
That's right, those poor welfare recipients that you work so hard to support, maintain their active gambling lifestyles/addictions with their welfare money. ![]()
Doesn't that just make you sick to the core? To think, all that time, that you were under the misguided impression you were actually helping the less fortunate buy food and life's necessities ... How naive!
And what does the Governator do?
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued an executive order requiring welfare recipients to promise they will use cash benefits only to "meet the basic subsistence needs" of their families. (Source)
A promise? Are you kidding me! Is that the best he/they can do?
If this isn't a good incentive to stop working right this very minute and start claiming welfare benefits, I don't know what is ...
And I'm sure this issue isn't limited to just California. It most definitely is happening in all 49 other States as we speak!
What happened to accounting, and accountability? Me thinks some state and local governments are now so corrupt and inept that things like these are just rive and not even on their radar for corrective actions anymore. No wonder CA cannot balance their books or budget!
OK, I'll be the first to admit that not all families on welfare are guilty of these kinds of transgressions, but it seems to me an awful lot of "needy" folk are happily continuing to feed their money and gambling needs this way courtesy of good ol' Uncle Sam. ![]()
